They solve two different problems using the same mounting hardware.

KRYON HEX is the burn-protection shield. Its hex-pattern structure is open and vented around the full circumference, so heat sheds off the suppressor while a rigid machined barrier sits between the can and your support hand, your sling, your bipod, and your gear.

KRYON MIRAGE is the optics shield. The upper half of the tube is solid, which keeps rising heat from climbing directly into your sight picture; the lower half stays open so the suppressor still vents.

HEX and MIRAGE are priced the same when configured with the same mounting system. HUB and CORELOCK configurations start at $199. NEXUS configurations are $289. Choose based on the problem you need to solve: contact protection or line of sight mirage management.

KRYON HEX. Choose it if your support hand rides forward on the handguard, you work around the rifle in confined spaces, you stage the rifle on gear or vehicle surfaces between strings, or other people are close to the muzzle end.

The reason HEX is the burn choice rather than MIRAGE is the venting. HEX is open across the whole circumference, so it stands between you and the suppressor without becoming an insulator that holds heat against the can. MIRAGE trades the top half of that venting for line-of-sight control.

KRYON MIRAGE. If you are behind a magnified optic and the target starts to shimmer after a few strings, that distortion is rising off the suppressor and crossing your line of sight. MIRAGE’s solid upper section is built to intercept that column before it reaches the objective, while the open lower section keeps the suppressor venting.

The mount matters here as much as the shield: the HUB and NEXUS adapters include an integrated timing system so the solid section actually ends up on top. A MIRAGE tube clocked sideways is not doing its job.

KRYON MIRAGE also reduces suppressor bloom caused by heat under night vision by managing and redirecting the rising heat column away from the sight line. Keep this as a qualitative claim unless a quantified reduction is supported by documented testing.

Shields come in 5″, 6″, 7″ and 8″. The correct length is driven by your suppressor’s length measured from the mounting reference point, not from the back of the can, and the reference point is different for HUB/QD setups than for thread-on setups.

Use the KRYON Length Selector on the Fitment & Guides page, which shows where to measure from for each mounting type. If your suppressor falls between available shield lengths, choose the next longer KRYON tube first. Use a 0.5 inch or 1.5 inch extension only when additional forward standoff is wanted or needed.

Yes. KRYON shields are interchangeable across compatible mounting hardware, so changing between HEX and MIRAGE usually means changing the shield rather than buying a completely separate mounting system.

With HUB, the adapter travels with the suppressor and compatible HEX or MIRAGE shields can be changed on that mounting hardware. With NEXUS, the low profile caliber insert stays on the rifle while the NEXUS Adapter and shield can be removed or moved between compatible hosts. CORELOCK and Thread stay on the rifle, and compatible KRYON shields can be changed while the barrel side hardware remains installed.

Extensions are shield specific. A HEX extension continues the vented HEX geometry, while a MIRAGE extension continues the solid upper section and corresponding vent geometry.

Configure it rather than guess. The HEX and MIRAGE product pages ask for four things and the system is built around your answers:

• Mount type: HUB or NEXUS
• Host rifle caliber and muzzle thread pitch: 5.56/.223 (1/2×28) or .308/7.62 (5/8×24)
• Suppressor brand: 20+ brands listed, plus “Other”
• Suppressor model: free text

Fitment is not universal and depends on the suppressor’s brand, model, mounting type, barrel interface, and dimensions. KRYON is currently compatible with 700+ suppressor models. If your model is not listed or you are not sure which mount you have, do not guess. Send us the setup details and we will help spec it before you order.

One is suppressor-side; the other three are rifle-side. That single distinction decides most of what follows.

• HUB: installs between the suppressor body and your existing HUB mount on the 1.375×24 industry-standard interface. It travels with the suppressor. $69.
• NEXUS: two pieces. The caliber insert sits on the barrel behind the muzzle device and stays on that rifle; the NEXUS adapter locks onto it with a ratchet mechanism and comes off with the shield. $159 adapter plus $39 per rifle.
• CORELOCK: one piece, rests on the barrel shoulder, retained by the muzzle device or the suppressor. Stays on the rifle. Works with QD and thread-on setups. $69.
• Thread: a direct-thread barrel mount with its own suppressor threads. Stays on the barrel. Currently .22 / 1/2×28 only. $139.

HUB refers specifically to the 1.375×24 rear suppressor interface used by many modern suppressors for interchangeable mounts. A removable rear mount alone does not automatically mean HUB. Confirm that the suppressor body uses the 1.375×24 HUB interface or contact us with the suppressor model or a photo.

If your suppressor uses a fixed or proprietary rear interface, use a compatible rifle side mounting option such as NEXUS, CORELOCK, or Thread rather than assuming HUB compatibility.

If you are unsure, a photo of the rear of the suppressor with the mount removed is usually all we need to tell you.

Yes, by one of two routes.

If the QD suppressor is HUB-compatible (meaning its QD mount threads into a 1.375×24 rear interface), use the HUB Adapter and the KRYON travels with the can.

If the QD system is proprietary or non-HUB, mount on the rifle side, behind the muzzle device, using NEXUS or CORELOCK. The suppressor then mounts and dismounts normally without touching the KRYON.

Yes. Two options depending on what you want to leave on the rifle.

CORELOCK supports thread-on setups. It slides onto the barrel, sits on the shoulder, and is retained by the suppressor itself. Available in 1/2×28 and 5/8×24.

Thread Adapter replaces the interface entirely: it threads onto the barrel and carries its own suppressor threads, so the suppressor threads onto the adapter rather than the barrel. It stays put when the can comes off, which also makes it usable in pin-and-weld applications. Currently offered in .22 / 1/2×28 only.

Before ordering a Thread Adapter, confirm barrel thread pitch, barrel shoulder type, available shoulder and rail clearance, and the suppressor interface. Thread, CORELOCK, and NEXUS are designed around a 90 degree barrel shoulder. If the barrel uses a taper, see the taper barrel fitment guidance below.

Yes. The mounting architecture determines what stays on the rifle or suppressor and what can move between hosts.

• HUB: the HUB Adapter becomes part of the suppressor mounting stack and travels with the suppressor. Compatible HEX and MIRAGE shields can be changed on the same HUB hardware.
• NEXUS: the low profile Caliber Insert stays on the rifle behind the muzzle device. The NEXUS Adapter and shield can be removed, leaving only the small insert behind. Additional rifles can be equipped with inserts so the same NEXUS Adapter and compatible shield can move between hosts.
• CORELOCK: the CORELOCK Adapter stays on the rifle at the barrel shoulder. Compatible KRYON shields can be removed or changed while the CORELOCK remains installed.
• Thread: the Thread Adapter stays installed on the barrel. Compatible KRYON shields can be removed or changed without removing the Thread Adapter.

If you move one suppressor across several rifles, HUB can be the simplest path because the KRYON mounting hardware follows the suppressor. NEXUS is especially useful when you want a small amount of hardware left on each rifle and the ability to move the adapter and shield between compatible hosts.

It depends on which side you mounted.

• HUB: the adapter is sandwiched inside the suppressor’s mount stack, so the KRYON comes off with the suppressor.
• NEXUS: the caliber insert stays on the barrel; the adapter and shield unlock and come away as one piece.
• CORELOCK: the adapter stays on the barrel, retained by the muzzle device or suppressor.
• Thread: the adapter stays on the barrel with its threads exposed for the next mount-up.

The shield itself can be removed or changed independently according to the mounting system. HUB hardware travels with the suppressor. NEXUS leaves only the Caliber Insert on the rifle when the adapter and shield are removed. CORELOCK and Thread stay on the barrel while compatible shields can be changed.

The NEXUS Caliber Insert stays on the rifle behind the muzzle device and is designed to leave a small footprint when the NEXUS Adapter and shield are removed.

The $159 NEXUS Adapter is the removable half that carries the shield. One insert per rifle, one adapter per shield. That is what makes NEXUS portable. Add a $39 insert to a second rifle and the same adapter and tube move over.

Inserts are pitch-specific: 1/2×28 or 5/8×24.

NEXUS, CORELOCK, and Thread are designed to interface with a 90 degree barrel shoulder. A tapered shoulder barrel can be used when an appropriate taper adapter converts the barrel interface to a 90 degree shoulder.

The muzzle device must also be compatible with the resulting 90 degree shoulder. A muzzle device designed specifically to seat against a tapered shoulder may not seat correctly after a taper adapter is installed. Confirm both the taper adapter and muzzle device interface before ordering. If you are unsure, send us the barrel, muzzle device, and suppressor information and we can help verify fitment.

Rifle side KRYON mounting systems require some exposed barrel behind the muzzle device so the mounting hardware can properly interface with the barrel shoulder. For CORELOCK specifically, allow at least 0.35 inch of clearance, or more, between the barrel shoulder and the end of the handguard or rail.

Rail, barrel, and muzzle device dimensions can vary. If your CORELOCK setup is close to the 0.35 inch minimum, or if you are unsure whether enough exposed barrel is available for another rifle side mount, contact Guntology before ordering so we can help confirm fitment.

Every KRYON system is configured around the customer’s stated mount type, suppressor, and host setup. If a configuration recommended for that setup does not properly fit, Guntology’s Fit Guarantee applies and we will make it right with the correct configuration or a refund.

Contact support with your order number, suppressor and host information, and a description or photo of the fitment issue so we can determine the correct resolution.

Fit Guarantee claims should be handled under the Fit Guarantee rather than treated as ordinary discretionary returns. Keep the Fit Guarantee, product page, and return policy language consistent so customers see one clear policy.

KRYON takes a different approach from an insulating suppressor wrap. It uses a rigid standoff shield and airflow around the suppressor rather than placing insulating material directly around the suppressor body.

Traditional wraps primarily manage the user facing surface through insulation. KRYON is designed around physical standoff and controlled venting instead.

HEX is open around the full circumference to promote airflow. MIRAGE uses a solid upper section with open lower venting to help manage the rising heat column while maintaining airflow around the suppressor.

Do not publish a claim that KRYON lowers barrel or chamber temperature unless the specific test and measurement conditions are published with it.

KRYON can still become hot. It reduces the risk of incidental contact with the suppressor and adds physical standoff, but it is not an insulated handle and should not be treated as safe to touch after firing.

Guntology’s own published warning applies here without softening: the KRYON is designed solely as a suppressor shroud to reduce the risk of incidental burns from contact with a hot suppressor. It does not eliminate the risk of injury, including burns or other firearm-related hazards.

Do not publish an exterior temperature number without the complete test conditions. Keep this answer qualitative unless caliber, round count, firing schedule, ambient temperature, measurement point, instrument, and time after firing are documented.

No. KRYON reduces the risk of incidental contact with a hot suppressor, but it does not eliminate burn risk. The shield itself can become hot and should not be used as a handle or treated as an indication that the suppressor is safe to touch.

KRYON is a rigid CNC machined shield designed for use around hot suppressors. The open geometry allows airflow around the suppressor, but KRYON does not change the firing limits established by the firearm or suppressor manufacturer.

Do not imply an unlimited duty cycle. If a specific firing schedule or round count is published later, include the test conditions and applicable suppressor setup.

The KRYON shield tube stands off from the suppressor body rather than wrapping or clamping against it along its length. Contact is limited to the intended mounting interfaces. Component specific cosmetic wear guidance should remain consistent with the warranty and product instructions.

KRYON is installed outside the suppressor bore path and is not intended to alter suppressor function. As with any change to a rifle or suppressor setup, confirm zero after installation. Do not publish a quantified POI shift claim unless it has been tested under documented conditions.

KRYON is not marketed as a product for extending barrel or suppressor service life. Its primary functions are burn protection, gear protection, physical standoff, and mirage management.

Heat rising off a hot suppressor warms the air directly above it. Warm air is optically less dense than the cooler air around it, so light passing through that column bends. Your line of sight, on a rifle with an optic mounted above the bore, crosses that column at close range, right where the distortion is strongest.

The result is a target that shimmers, edges that soften, and holds you cannot trust. Magnification multiplies it, which is why a 15× scope is punished by mirage that an unmagnified red dot barely registers, and why the problem shows up on precision rifles long before it shows up on carbines.

It is worth being clear about what mirage is not: it is not a suppressor defect, and it is not something a cover can insulate away. The heat has to leave the suppressor somewhere. The question is whether it leaves through your sight picture.

The upper half of the MIRAGE tube is solid. Heat coming off the top of the suppressor meets a machined barrier instead of rising straight up through the sight line. The lower half of the tube stays open, so the suppressor continues to vent. The heat is redirected out and down rather than bottled up.

Orientation is what makes MIRAGE work. HUB and NEXUS include integrated timing capability so the solid section can be positioned at the top. The Lock Ring holds that orientation once set. CORELOCK and Thread can also use MIRAGE, but the tube must be manually timed with shims.

Do not add a quantified mirage reduction percentage until testing is published with stated conditions.

The trade-off is real, though: MIRAGE gives up the top half of HEX’s venting in exchange for line-of-sight control. If burn protection is the entire reason you are buying and you shoot an unmagnified optic, HEX vents more and costs the same.

Yes. KRYON MIRAGE can reduce suppressor bloom caused by heat under night vision by managing the rising heat column that would otherwise move into the sight line. Do not add a quantified percentage or thermal signature reduction claim unless that specific performance has been documented under stated test conditions.

Two steps every time: install the mount, then thread on the shield and lock it in place.

• HUB: unthread your existing HUB mount from the suppressor, install the KRYON HUB Adapter between the suppressor body and that mount, then retorque. No permanent modification to the suppressor.
• NEXUS: slide the caliber insert onto the barrel behind the muzzle device; it is captured when the muzzle device is torqued down. The NEXUS Adapter then locks onto the insert with a ratchet mechanism designed to resist unintentional unlocking.
• CORELOCK: slide the adapter onto the barrel so it rests on the barrel shoulder. The muzzle device or suppressor retains it.
• Thread: thread the adapter onto the barrel’s 1/2×28 threads. The suppressor then threads onto the adapter.

Update legacy C, F, and H guide names and on page labels to CORELOCK, Thread, and HUB where appropriate, and make sure a current NEXUS installation guide is linked. Do not duplicate torque or thread locker specifications in the FAQ if they are maintained in the installation PDFs.

HUB and NEXUS configurations ship with a Lock Ring. CORELOCK and Thread configurations do not. HUB configurations also ship with the HUB wrench. Replacement Wrench Tools and Lock Rings may also be purchased separately.

The HUB and NEXUS adapters have an integrated timing system for exactly this. Set the tube’s clock position so the solid upper section sits at twelve o’clock relative to your sight line, then tighten the Lock Ring against the tube to hold it.

Check it from behind the rifle, not from the side. If the solid section is not directly under your line of sight, MIRAGE is not doing the job you bought it for.

CORELOCK and Thread can use a MIRAGE shield, but they do not use the same integrated timing method as HUB and NEXUS. MIRAGE must be manually timed with shims so the solid section is positioned correctly. Add this distinction to the CORELOCK and Thread product pages as well.

Published weight and added length should be listed by specific configuration when verified. Avoid a single universal hardware weight because HUB, NEXUS, CORELOCK, and Thread use different components.

The shield itself is chosen by length (5″, 6″, 7″ or 8″) and is intended to extend slightly past the suppressor’s muzzle. That overhang is deliberate; see the next question. Extensions add a further 0.5″ or 1.5″.

Extensions are available in 0.5 inch and 1.5 inch lengths only. Remove any reference to a 2.0 inch extension. Add verified component weights and added length to the relevant product pages rather than generalizing them in the FAQ.

If your position puts the muzzle close to obstacles (high port work, vehicle work, compressed prone), a 0.5″ or 1.5″ extension adds more standoff without replacing the tube.

No. The KRYON shield tube is designed to stand off from the suppressor body along its length. It is supported by the selected mounting hardware rather than wrapping or clamping directly around the suppressor body.

On rifle-side mounts (NEXUS, CORELOCK and Thread), the suppressor mounts and dismounts normally. The KRYON is handled separately and does not sit in the suppressor’s mounting path.

On HUB, the adapter becomes part of the mount stack between the suppressor body and its HUB mount. Once installed correctly, the suppressor continues to mount to the rifle through its existing mounting system. Follow the HUB installation PDF for all torque and installation requirements.

A measuring guide on the Fitment & Guides page that shows you where to measure from, because the reference point is different for QD/HUB setups than for thread-on setups. Measuring from the wrong point is the most common reason a shield arrives in the wrong length.

Measure once against the guide before you configure, and note the number, because the configurator will ask for it.

KRYON shield tubes are CNC machined from 6061 T6 aluminum. Materials and finishes for mounting components can vary by part, so component specific specifications should be listed on the corresponding product pages once verified from the production BOM.

Use the same Designed and produced in the USA language consistently on the homepage, product pages, and FAQ unless country of origin wording is formally updated.

Guntology offers a Lifetime Warranty to the original purchaser for defects in materials and workmanship under normal use in intended conditions. Intentional destruction, modification, misuse, improper installation, and use outside intended operating conditions are excluded. Do not publish a specific heat limit until one has been formally validated.

Use this Lifetime Warranty language consistently on product pages, the FAQ, and the warranty or returns policy. Ensure all warranty links point to a live policy page.

Standard returns follow the current published return policy. Valid fitment issues covered by the KRYON Fit Guarantee should be handled under the Fit Guarantee rather than treated as ordinary discretionary returns.

Keep the Fit Guarantee and standard return policy clearly separated and use consistent language across the FAQ, product pages, and policy pages.
